Enterprise Reporter (US-Based)

Our reporters in the US and around the globe rigorously report on untold stories and the interconnected issues affecting women and their communities everywhere. Our reporting often leads the news cycle and is published in prominent outlets, bringing the full story to a large and diverse audience.
Since 2015, our team has published hundreds of articles and reached millions of readers. In 2020 alone, we reported on stories such as: a series on childcare issues affecting working mothers during Covid-19, the pandemic exacerbating the crisis in Black maternal mortality in Wisconsin, intimate partner violence faced by Indigenous communities and compounding systemic barriers to voting, and Black women mobilizing to vote in the recent elections.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced US-based Enterprise Reporter who has a specialized beat in an area such as: technology, labor, economics, inequity, safety and security, trafficking, immigration or other topics. Interested candidates should pitch us their specific beat, highlight past reporting that shows expertise in the beat and be prepared to pitch us stories and series on day one in their new role they intend to cover.
The Reporter should have proven experience reporting on the beat through the lens of gender and intersectionality. This role will focus on stories in the US. The Reporter will report to our Deputy Editor and can be based anywhere in the U.S. We prefer candidates who are embedded within their local communities and understand how to apply national issues to a local context.
The ideal candidate shares a passion for our mission, has experience working in a newsroom, is deadline-focused and entrepreneurial, sees trends and can identify stories for longer-range coverage, and is constantly asking themselves, “Whose voice is missing from the conversation? What is the historical or systemic context surrounding this issue? How can I go deeper?” Ideal candidates will also have the following background and skills:
- Deep understanding of their beat, including landscape, coverage and trends
- Ability to apply that understanding to women and communities often left out of the mainstream narrative
- Proven track record of reporting on unheard stories related to their beat
- Strong narrative reporter; investigative and/or data reporting experience a plus
- Deep source network of both experts related to the beat and women from communities affected by the issues in the beat
- Works well with other reporters and enjoys sharing a byline
- Willingness to receive and act on feedback and edits
- Passionate for and demonstrated commitment to the mission and core values of The Fuller Project
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and work independently in a remote environment
- Ability to work productively in a non-partisan environment, guided by journalism ethics, and in nonprofit newsroom
